My first true foray into creative writing was a few years ago when I created a blog about thrift clothing named Threadcrumbs. Here’s what I learned from the experience:

1. Your friends and family do not want to take daily pictures of you trying to be cool, but also relatable, but also stylish.
2. Training for a marathon is a great way to ensure that you will get nothing else done for six months of your life, especially maintaining a blog you started at the exact same time.
3. Your mom will always think you’re great, no matter what you are posting on your Facebook wall.

That said, the experience is what put me on the path to becoming a writer and also gave me the opportunity to be a guest host on a nonprofit radio show for the blind, which was incredible.

NOTE: Before you head to the Threadcrumbs site, I cannot stress to you enough how cool, relatable, and stylish the pictures of me in thrift clothing did not turn out to be. You have been warned.
